Hard to start a 2.8 when warm
I have a 1998 A4 2.8 tip w/51k miles on it.
I am having trouble starting the car when the engine is warm. If I drive to work (30 miles mostly highway) then turn off the car and let it sit 5-10 minutes then try to re-start it, it doesn't fire right up. I have to let the starter engage longer and sometimes give it a little gas. It then sutters and starts.
Now first thing in the morning it fires right up. When I leave the office at noon for lunch..no problem.
Any ideas?

thanks..BUT.....
could you explain what this $27.86 part is and why it makes the car hard to start. This must be a common thing 'cause the dealer has one in stock. (and he doesn't like to stock parts!)

try this:
try starting the car with your foot on the gas (keep it pressed while holding the key) if the car starts, it's the coolant temp sensor
I think there's some sort of failsafe system that makes the car not start if there is no coolant
