Default Have a small oil leak on a 30v.. If any can help me out and save money.. go ahead and do so... more

I have been smelling buring oil lately when the car has warmed up and at a stop it comes out the air vents, but once I started to move it went away. Finally I checked and its leaking from the front left side of the engine, not alot, but its dripping down the oil filter (checked that and its not leaking). It seems to be coming from the gasket. Had it put up on a lift and and we couldnt exactly pin point it.. any ideas of what else it could be? And if it is the gasket how hard is that to do? I've seen the how to replace the gasket on a 1.8 is it basically the same thing on a 2.8? Any help would be great. Sorry if they is long but I did sreach and all I found was thats it common.. no help there. Thanks alot
Peter (BTW its a friends car.. haha)

Default It's probably actually coming from the cam chain tensioner gasket...

on the passenger side.. It's not a huge job, but it's not for the faint of heard. Look for Rob Andrews' page. He has a writeup there.

Be that the right side of the engine is totally dry? And how much money would it be to do it yourself?
Thanks alot

Default Hard to say. The best way to tell, when you smell the burning smell, get out, look under the hood..

and see where the oil smoke is coming from. Oil has to be pretty hot to burn off, there are only a few places where it's that hot outside of the engnie, the first being the exhaust manifolds.

I had the exact same problem on my 2.8 30V. Had the VC gaskets changed = no more stink.
