Headgaskets?

I have a 1998 30v and have been having an overheating problem. There has been no extreme pressure on any of the hoses. The temp gauge will go up to the center, stay there for a couple min and then go all the way to "H" and the light will go on. I just opened the air bleed on the upper rad hose (right near the coil packs) and nothing but steam came out. Although I did not see any bubbles going to the tank. Fans are working fine, it runs perfect.
Just need somebody to confirm that the problem would be the headgaskets.
If so, is the headgasket job a bitch? What it the toughest part?

How about a bad temp gauge sender? I doubt you can find anyone here that has...

...experienced head gasket issues on the 30v.

Throw a thermostat at it 1st.

Could be a number of things, t-stat being the cheapest; i'd try that 1st.

is the thermostat under the intake manifold?

on a V6? lol... might as well do a timing belt if ur close to the time to do so...

its in front under the covers.
