Headlight bulb replacement
Does anyone know if replacing my stock h7 55w bulbs with h7 100w bulbs with have any adverse effects? They say they are for an A4 so....

Might melt the housing.

probally not a good idea.....
100W = 8.3 Amps
55w = 4.3 Amps Go ahead and try it.. i won't.. you are drawing twice as much current = twice the power = melting wires |
Yah it will melt your plugs then you have to go to the dealer and buy the whole light harness!

Don't do it! The previous owner installed 100w bulbs....
and the tips melted. I found this out after the passenger side burned out. I replaced it with stock 55w bulbs.

HOLD ON WITH THAT -READ
I have Osram H7 Ultra high output 65W Rally bulbs en route. I am quite pissed they did not come today because I need to wait until Mon now.
I searched the whole WWW for a not-so-high-watt H7, because the dangers of a 100W bulb are real IMHO. I found Phillips rallye 80W, that's still too high, but I was about to give it a try when I ran across this 65W bulb. I found a total of 2 websites in the universe mentioning it. My seller is claiming it is Osram, but it is not on their website. The lowdown is that it is "an H9 burner in an H7 bulb". H9 is the newest of the bulb designs, 65W, 2100 lumens, per Osram.com. If you consider a regular halogen bulb at 1200 lumens, an H7 at 1500 and OEM Xenon at 2800 (D2R - reflector housings) to 3100 (D2S - projectors) it is an exciting new proposition. It better be at $28 a piece (yes, that's $56 a pair and $112 for both low and high beam... will see the second pair after the first one really works.) Watch for my report with pics in a week or so. |
Group 5 in san diego sells 55watt Vision Hyper whites

100w in the main housings will cause damage to the housings, running the 100w (more)
as highs will be ok if you use your high beams intermintently.
