Default Headlight switch failure.

I'm sure everyone knows HOW BAD these switches are & how flimsy they are made. Well guess what? The older 90 sedans made from 93-95 have the exact same switch but are made MUCH BETTER! They don't have the cheap azz plastic that newer model has. Also Relay the entire lighting circuit. The high draw on this circuit running through such a lousy switch causes the failure.

Do you need to replace the whole switch unit which i found on line at $140, or i also saw that it is easliy fixable as the plastic melts iside the switch. They say you can clean off plastic and fix contacts.Any thoughts and thanks for the info either way

Yeah you can do the clean up but IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. What you have to do is either get the old 90 sedan switch or rewire the lighting system with relays. There is just too much amps running through the flimsy switch Audi put in this car.

Default terminals maybe?

so my low beams stopped working last thursday night and i did some research and figured it was the combo switch. bought a used one from auto salvage and replaced myself. I'm no mechanic, though I'm alright with taking things apart and reassembling them (thanks to lego’s). but my low beams/ fog lights still aren't working. i have to work a late shift tomorrow night and I'm stressing to get them fixed immediately!!

if someone can walk me thru on how to check to the terminal, or any other possible reasons on why their not working i would highly appreciate it.

SN: fuses seem fine and i doubt its the actual headlights since they both went out at the same time, along with the fog lights.

thank you.

Thanks to all for the info and pulled it apart and fixed it for now with new switch on the way. Will look into putting a relay on the circuit but will be upgrading to an A6 here as soon as winter breaks
