Default Is it OK to change the filter after the oil change?

Finish draining my oil and cant get the #$%^#& oil filter off. Even bent my oil grip to a useless crap of metal. Tried to put a screw driver thru it but no room to hammer it in. Looks like someone tried to get it off unsucessfully before too. I'm thinking this thing hasn't been replaced in a while. Gonna have to refill and drive to the parts store to get some serious tool. So is it ok to change the filter after filling her up with fresh oil...mainly concerned with oil spilling when taking off the old filter.

My first oil change on the audi, and i thought the drain plug tight. props to whoever suggested using a jack to loosen that sucker.

Default i had the same problem...

i tried to put the driver through, but yes!!! no room. what i ended up doing is using the wrench that 'wraps' around the filter and tightens up. i took a latex glove and shoved it between the filter and the wrench so that it would 'grip'. then i just pulled like the dickens. it took me 3.25 hours and 4 trips to the auto parts store, but i got it. i didn't fill up and drain again, i used my mom's nissan to go back and forth. i wouldn't reccomend filling cuz when you finally DO get that filter off, all the oil will drain out again. i KNOW you wouldn't put that back in, would ya? good luck.

Default Remove the coolant reservoir to give yourself more room

to punch the screwdriver though. Wrap the filter in a plastic bag to contain the oil. Good luck!

Default goto sears for their oil filter removal tool.

Its a 3 tonged device that grabs the filter.
