Help! bringing US car to Europe

I know there have been discussions on this but they are not currently accessible... (browser just hangs ...)
I am about to buy a Jetta TDI (VWvortex hasn't been too helpful so far...) which I would like to bring back to Belgium with me...
Has anyone on this forum been in this case?

If so:
How much is it to bring the car to Belgian/European standards (lights, emissions etc...)?
I was also told that some Europe-ready cars could also be found in the US!

Your help will be much appreciated!

You'd be better off buying there

Far more options available, especially diesel

Between 800 and 1000 dollars to send it to europe. Diesel is cleaner with low sulffer in the EU

I know but...

I know...
but: - the TDI 90 is more than enough for me
- taxes are waived in Belgium if the car is older than 1 year
- plenty of stuff to bring back (books, courses, bike...) => this saves in shipping too...
- the car comes better equiped in the us (AC, sunroof, etc..)
- I need that car now...
Thanks anyway!

I know about the shipping options and the Diesel quality (and yet... I'm in CA and they have the highest standards in US, but if someone knows about the differences between CA and EU, I'm interested)
Thanks,

Options are seriously expensive there...also you would be pretty well off to own a 1.8T Quattro in E

Europe with all the standard equipment that they come with...

I certainly know that I could not afford one in Europe...I only had a 306DTurbo there...

When I can, I will be bringing my car to Europe when I move home to Ireland in a few years...Quattro in that wet climate will be awesome...

plus the price of mods is very different at home...

Re: I know but...

I would take the us car with you !!
US Models are much much better equiped !!!
TDI is most driven in europe.

Had a coworker do just that

And she ran into all sorts of problems and wasn't allowed to register the car.

To England

Ended up shipping it back as the cost to comply was prohibitive!

Just trying to tell it like it is :)
