Default Help a brotha out

Hi everyone,

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right forum to post it on, but I am interested in purchasing a relatively old Audi A4 (something in the range of $2500-$3000) but I am a HUUUUGE car noob, I barely know anything about cars in general much less specifics on spotting out lemons etc. From my 5 minute browsing on eHow I found out that I should really look into the common issues that are concerned with the model that I'm looking at so this is where I would love for an Audi A4 (1994-2001 Model) to come in and give me advice! ANYTHING would be appreciated. Seriously. Look forward to hearing from you guys.

Cheers,
Alex

For that kind of money you are not going to get much.

Some dealers are actually charging $2500 for timing belt or clutch replacement .

Unless you can DIY I would buy a Honda, Nissan or Toyota .

Get some experience working on cars doing tune-ups , replacing brakes and timing belts etc.

Then buy whatever you want.

you can buy 96-99 A4's all day long for that price, but they will be cars with 100-160k miles, needing work, ranging from T-Belt (prepare for $1500-2000 at shops) suspension work, etc... at this mileage range it is just time for stuff to wear out, control arms, engine emissions stuff etc...

all very easy and cheap if you can DIY, all very expensive to pay to get it done!!!!
I would look for a 98-99 2.8, stay away from any V6 prior to 98. good engine but in 98 they went to the 30V and just a much better performer and driver.
the 1.8T is a good engine but when things go wrong it is very expensive. turbo etc....

I recommend Audi to all my friends but I do this Knowing I will be working on them. I do not recommend a Audi in this range for anyone on limited income! the last 2 cars I bought this year were from collage students who could not afford the up keep!! both cars had estimates in the range of $2500+ in needed repairs from 2 different dealers. I bought the cars and spent less then $400 in repairs on each doing the work my self. so Labor is rough!!!!!!
