Help me solve the mystery of the disappearing Power Steering fluid
Hi all,
About every 4 months my power steering fluid seems to "dissapear". Now, I have no stains on my driveway, nor do I ever have a smell of something burning. Friggin stuff just dissapears. I have no idea where it is going.
Yes, I can (and do) fill 'er up with fluid when she's dry, but I'm worried this may be a sign of something more serious.
Any ideas??

Well, assuming you crawled around underneath and found no leaks...
Some people have mentioned that the fluid can leak into the rack, making it hard to find the actual leak. I believe rack replacement is usually necessary ($$$$). If you search the archives, I'm sure you'll find some information.

Mine did that for a while too.
Try looking very closely at all the lines that you can see. A lot of the rubber lines get brittle and develop slow leads at any junction point. Try snipping off 1/2 of line at the reservior and reconnecting the line.
Very tough to pin down unless you know what you are doing and have a lift so see underneath. Even my good local shop couldn't find my leak.
My advice, carry fluid. It's a bitch to find if you are out on the road and it decides to dump it all at once. Happened to me.
