Default Home-made anti-theft system idea?

Ok, this is probably not original, and is likely a ghetto thing to do, but I had an idea:

What if you rigged up a basic switch, like the flipswitch here, which you would turn off after shutting off your engine to break one of the vital circuits, like at or near the fuse panel?

The switch would be hidden somewhere below the dash, only you would know where... just flip it back before starting the engine, and that's it.

The fuel pump fuse circuit could, for example, be used to prevent the car from starting.

I am certain there are many, many flaws with this idea, mainly that this would not prevent someone from simply towing the car away... but it may prevent the hot-wiring?

What do you think?<ul><li><a href="http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&amp;category%5Fnam e=CTLG%5F011%5F002%5F015%5F001&amp;product%5Fid=27 5%2D701">Radio Shack, $2.69, rated 16 amps at 12VDC</a></li></ul>

Default Or you could fake a NOS switch...haha!

This idea would probably work though, you could wire it directly to the ignition switch maybe.

Default Most cars now will throw a check engine light or code if you try cutting off the fuel pump

On the newer toyota cars if you try just using a standard ignition kill, then someone tries to start the car while it is on the car ends up setting off the CEL and it has to go to the dealership to get it turned off. The reason is because all the newer cars now have sensors on everything so when there is an issue with the car it will tell the techs exactly where to look for the problem.

Default Just dont let anyone try starting your car and you should be fine.

Just always seems to be a "user error" since they always forgot to turn the switch back before going to start the car and would sit there cranking it for a few minutes before figuring out what they did wrong. But by then it was too late and the cel was on.

i know it's bad, but so far no problems. I've been super careful about it now since it's my daily routine. No where's safe in NJ! =(
