How to change the Clutch?

can anyone give me info on how hard it will be to change the clutch in my 99 A4 2.8 Quattro?

Pretty big job. Gotta pull the tranny. I've pulled the auto tranny on the 2.8 and I'd say out and back in is about 3 days for a guy who's never done it. Add clutch/flywheel time to that.

well im mechanically inclined, and my friend is in school for auto mechanics, hes pulled the motor in a 05 Tiburon, changed the clutch in it, pulled the motor in his Mk3 Supra, put the clutch in it, so hes done clutch work. i know its gonna be rough because the Quattro set up though. thanks though

Good attitude. Nobody ever did s--t when they were afraid of it.

Do you have access to a lift??

If not it is gonna be the suck big time. On a hoist with air tools and trans jack took me 4.5 hours on a FWD. I was able to keep the exhaust attached but I think with quattro you need to disconnect the exhaust. Plan on a full 8 hrs.

Might be a little easier on a manual. I spent about 2 hours just getting the starter out to get to the torque converter bolts.

It's a good deal of work. I pull my engine, I find it easier then on my back dropping the transmission alone.

Look through the AW tech articles. You'll find some info there.

i just wanna start racing my car in the tuner class at our local dragstrip and dont want the stock clutch to go out since its my daily driver/only car haha. id rather spend a weekend upgrading the clutch than waiting for the stock one to go out. thanks for the help man

It is much easier to get to the tranny bolts with the downpipes out of the way.
