how to do a compression test?

See subject. I searched the archives and didn't find anything concrete (other than suggestions to have them done). I looked on google and found a procedure for Mitsu Eclipse; not sure it's the same for the A4 1.8T.

easy..

take out your spark plugs and put the pressure tester in each cylinder and boom u see the compression. all u need is the proper tool forgot exactly what its called

here...

1. unlock car door
2. open driver door
3. open fuse panel cover
4. remove fuel pump fuse
5. pull hood release latch
6. remove engine cover(plastic)
7. disconnect and remove each coilpack cable
8. remove each coilpack
9. remove each spark plug
10. carefully thread compression gauge in a cylinder
11. crank the engine over until gauge stops(have friend watch for you) and count the number of cranks
12. write down reading
13. repeat 10-12 for each cylinder with the same number of cranks
14. reverse process

Remove the coilpack for the cylinder you want to test..

have a friend crank the engine but not start it, all this while you are forming a seal with your hand around the opening of the circle and blowing down the cylinder bank. If when the engine cranks and its hard for you to blow down the bank your compression is fine, if its easy you may have a problem.
