how driveable is a slipping clutch ?

so my clutch slips on 5th gear if i throttle pass the halfway point. if im just driving softly, everything is fine. my question is how badly would this damage my flywheel if i drive softly. would the flywheel only get damaged if it slips? or the flywheel is being damaged as im driving even if im not slipping? TIA

The flywheel is fine if it's not slipping...

the more you slip the clutch, the more the flywheel *may* get damaged. You can probably limp it along for now...if you need more power on the highway, downshift (and rev match) into 4th). You'll find the the clutch will initially slip under high load, low rpms conditions. As it gets worse, you'll find it harder and harder to avoid slipping the clutch. At that point, consider replacing it before you take the flywheel out with it.
