How far do you press your clutch in when you shift?
sometimes it seems like I barely rest my foot on the clutch when I shift. maybe push it in 1-2". I never grind, and everything runs 100%. I've had no problems with missing shifts, or anything. am I gonna screw something up by doing this? should I push my clutch pedal all the way down when I shift?

Mine too, very little movement needed.

Driving Stick 101: You should always push the clutch in ALL THE WAY
Mine catches about halfway up, but I still push it all the way in...
not true
same here.
Same here.
Ditto. I just need to jab it.
Why?
I meant it just as it sounds it was the way my instructor taught me
me too...
He was probably just trying to keep you from screwing up when you were learning.
Unless you mean your track instructor, but I can't see why he'd say that. Any extraneous motion couldn't help at the track, especially with our ridiculous clutch engagement point.
But maybe he uses it as a point of reference so when you shift in the seat, your foot always knows exactly where the engagement point is, whoknows. |
I as well
My father used to shift without using the clutch at all.
If you rev-match properly you can do it. Only problem is, if you mess it up, you could be buying a new tranny!

i can do it fine =P only from 3rd to fourth though =(

i dont push mine allthewaydown .... just aabout 1/4 of the way down ... you can fell it am i not rig

Speed Shifting = BAD BAD BAD.. messes up your syncros
I don't think they had syncros back then. :)
Agreed however -- it's not something I have ever made a habit of doing. Since my A4 has a Tip, it does not apply (boy do I miss a clutch!).
