I am about the replace my spark plugs, but I don't have a way of measuring the gap other than....
looking at them and guessing. They all seem to have the same gap. (NGK BKR6E). If anyone knows of an easier way of checking the gap, please let me know.
And would a 2001.5 A4 1.8qt be a AEB, ATW or AWM engine? # Spark plugs (AEB, 1.8L engine) Gap 0.70 to 0.90 mm (0.029 to 0.035 in) Spark plugs (ATW, AWM, 1.8L engine) # Gap 0.80 mm maximum (0.032 in) |
your eye cannot check gap...buy a cheap tool at autozone, they're like a dollar
|
go to any auto parts store and ask for a spark plug gap measurer.
should run you .99-1.99 its self explanitory, if you are really lost ask the guy behind the counter.
|
What about the engine code? Or should I just play safe and stick with 0.8 mm (0.032")?
|
spark plug measuring tool is 99CENTS worth the $$$
|
IF it costs less than a cup of crappy starbucks coffee, I can afford it. :)
The question however is what the gap should be...
I don't know my engine code and even if I knew I wouldn't know where in the range I should be. I'll probably keep the gap on the old plugs, if I can't figure it out soon. |
engine code is stamped onto the front of the block on the 1.8
look through my work picposter or my other one and there should be a picture of the location.
faq again is the wisdom of this board |
you are AWM. are you chipped?
around .030" should be fine
|
yes I am chipped and now i realized that my coilpacks do not have the securing brackets!!!
Is it normal or is it the dealership screwing me again?
|
Did you even look at the parts that were in the car before you took them out?
