If an ECU part number is the same, does it matter if it came out of an A6 or Passat?

You're trying to put an ECU from an A6 or Passat into....an A4? 1.8T or 2.8? I know you can put a Passat ECU into an A4, not sure about A6. Good luck

I picked up an extra ecu for my 2.8 A4 from a passat. The part numbers matched. It was originally programmed for a tip, had to change it to manual using vag tool.
