installing a APR snub mount tomorrow. if i have to shave,
 

what does this mean? will it be apparent when i'm in the middle of it? what do i use to shave? file? razor knife? tia. how many have actually had to shave?

If you can't jam it on the spindle, you may need to shave it.
 

I suggest putting it in the microwave to cook it a bit if it doesn't fit.

And you wont be able to shave it without some kick ass tools. Bryan almost lost a thumb or two trying to shave down a snub.

Just installed a new snub mount yesterday...
 

I heated it up and put grease on the spindle and I still couldn't get it on all the way. What I ended up doing instead of cutting the snub mount was:

(this requires 2 people)
1. Take off the top bolt from each of the bumper shocks, in its place, put the longer lower bumper retainer bolts in the holes. These are longer and will allow the radiator support to be pulled out farther while keeping it lined up. Remove the other 3 screws from the bumper supports on each side.
2. Put the mount in place over the spindle.
3. One person pull the radiator support out as far as possible, don't pull too hard or you'll break coolant lines.
4. The other person puts a wrench or something flat in front of the mount, and in between the snub shroud. Then push the radiator support back in place and the snub should snap right in easily.

Try using some sort of silicone grease to help it slide on.

yeah... i was there too, and it's near impossible to shave using a knife or anything of that sort
 

my guess is if it doesn't fit, you're screwed. we also used a method similar to what J4SON posted, it works well.

a pair of extra hands are useful when doing the snub mount install (e.g. taking off bumper, holding radiator up, etc.).

You shouldn't have to deal with the inside diameter at all. Use something like KY jelly to lube it
 

up and then use a big set of water pump pliers to twist it on. If you have to clearance anything it will be the OD if it hits the aluminum basket the snub runs in. If you do need to clearance the OD I suggest you use a dremel on teh aluminum basket and not shave teh urethane snub. This for three reasons. First, grinding urethane is hard to do and keep it as smooth as it should be. Two, urethane when cast forms a skin on the mold surfaces and grinding tha tskin off will lessen its ability to shed chemical attack and lessen its ability to withstand wear. Lastly, grinding urethane is a messy assed job .. far simpler to cleaance the aluminum basket with dremel and sandpaper bit.
