Intake
i have a 97 audi a4 and just put a k&n intake in it. it says to put the breather filter to the auxiliary air pump hose but i cant find that hose, also i now have the check engine light on after installing everything but that breather filter and are the intake supposed to sound like its taking in alot of air just at idle. Thanks

Ha, a bit harsh Nate. But yeah, leave the stock air box alone unless you need to make room for a BT!
It is just a loud and ineffective waste of money. I would have given you my HKS intake/cone filter I took out for free, which was replaced with modified (MAF/inlet part to 3") stock airbox. Nice and quite, still pulls great... (well minus the intermittent N75 code --> soft limp mode 5 psi)

Re: "i have a 97 audi a4 and just put a k&n intake in it." Stop right there
Its a 2.8 v6, i put it on because i thought that it would breath better and give a little more power.

Its just too hard for most Awddi users to figure out or 2 much $$<--- And thats the truth of that
Gains are available if you want to pursue them, but they wont be as simple as hooking up a filter, and may cost a little bit. There are however noticeable gains if you do it correctly and do it ram air fashion. It is a pain in the *** to figure the routing and heat sheilding, and the filters that will do a good job are normally > 100$ to do it. You can get ambient air into the compressor intake at greater than atmospheric pressure if you ignore these guys and think a little, but its not a 30$ mod which may be why a lot of these piple push it away. Hell if I hadnt already I would do it just because the list in general doesnt think it works.

Well of course, if you route cooler air from outside of the engine bay into the filter housing...
it's going to be better than the filter drawing air from within. that's a no brainer. Ram air is not a new concept either. domestics have been doing it literally forever.
