Default Introducing the GIAC Handheld Flashloader!

Check this out folks! Garrett has introduced the GIAC Handheld Flashloader. This thing is sweet, allows you to flash your *stock chip* and never have to worry about anyone seeing that you changed your chip. You never even have to take out your ECU, not once. Makes the most sense for those still under warranty who have not yet chipped, but pretty awesome for everyone. The MTO1, MTO2, MTO3 buttons, Garrett has explained, may be used for boost controller purposes. Really sweet.

Garrett and GIAC will be at DynoSpot Racing in San Jose this Saturday if any of you want to check out this unit in person. I'm not sure if a B5 application is available yet. This will be a sort of open house type thing at DSR before the big New Dimensions show. I know at least some labor will be waived, so check it out, or talk to the guys at DSR.

Default That's pretty darn cool...

Would it work for an A6 2.8?

Default Yeah except you don't have to do anything to your ECU for this. :)

And an IBE doesn't do boost controlling. Don't get me wrong, I love my IBE, but this is pretty sweet for certain applications.

Default Not sure what all the current applications are, you might want to ask DSR.

You could email them at their address at the link at the top of this thread.

Default So no chip to buy right? And power is the same as from

a physical chip? Any word on when it'll be out for B5 cars and pricing?

Default Yep, same exact software, in fact whatever you want basically.

The way it seems to work is that the software is stored in that little box and then just writes over the current chip. This means:

1) no ECU tampering evidence
2) if you rewrite the stock software (it takes ~4 sec to write the software), no one could *ever* know you did anything, assuming no error codes, which you could take care of with a VAG if there were any for some reason. If they looked inside the ECU, even checksummed the chip, everything would come up hunky-dory.

As for B5 app, I dunno, it might already be available, you should email DSR.

from my experience after 3 of them failing, the IBE blows. I run separate chips now. PITA, but...
