Ipod mount with trim redone, thx to Sal R...

...for the Bondo suggestion.

Some background: I had an idea to make a slot that i could just slide my ipod in and out of (like an 8 track) and have it connect to my aux input (probably not a clear explanation just click the link below). But I didn't do so well finishing off the install.

So I re-did the trim with some Bondo (ditched the vinyl), much better than it originally came out. I went with a gloss finish, but after seeing it, I feel like I should have just done a flat black instead (you can see all the finger prints on the gloss finish) and it contrast a lot... too much with the rest of the interior.

How does that work?

shouldnt it go in the other way.

I think it looks better..

but if it were mine, I might make a flip down door for the front of that slot. You know, for when it is not in use. You can just use the same materials and use a small hindge. Use epoxy to make it stick to the inside of the plastic or plexi you are using. Cheers to your efforts though.

Re: How does that work?

It could go either way, depending on the interface hardware you use. Anyway, click the link to the original post to see how it works. It's connected through the headphone jack. And I control it with a RF remote.

You could do my install with one of the interface adaptors (alpine, pioneer, clarion) and if you did that the ipod would go in the other way.

Awsome, I was looking to do something similar in the center console.

But honestly, I want a minimac in my car, so Im not sure how far I will take the Ipod thing.

sir.. your ingenuity is improving... very respectable....

i would use a flat paint for sure. Sit back and let it dry for a really long time. Then apply one to three coats of clear coat. Waiting an hour in between. You'll like the outcome... major improvement though. Patience :)

Careful!

Some people will flame you for leaving the subject line the way you did- The format police :) require that you start your reply in the subject line- I don't care, but they will on future posts!

Spend 100 bucks on the Alpine-420i and keep your ipod in the glovebox. Works MUCH better.

That's what I did, best possible setup (I think). And you have a newer HU than I do so it would work even better than the one I use!!
