I have a 1998 A4 2.8 (regretfully non-quattro). I have had an error code dealing with the camshaft sensor. I had my tech replace the sensor but the error code is still there, even if he wipes the codes it comes back within hours. I recently put a new starter and ignition switch in the car and recently have been having slight issues starting the car. It is turning over fine when it does, but sometimes nothing happens when I turn the key, I just turn it back, turn it again and it starts. I don't know if these two issues are one in the same...related, or if I am loosing my mind. Since the camshaft sensor is new and still producing error codes something has to be faulty...maybe the camshaft chain tensioner? Anyone have any experience with these things please drop me a line.

might sound stupid, you might not even have a manual
but for a few weeks when i first had my car, i would turn the key with the clutch depressed and nothing would happen. then id try it a second time and it would start perfectly. i found that i wasnt pushing the clutch far enough to the floor the first time, and just inadvertantly pushed it down far enough the second time everytime. might help
