Ouch! State referee! They'll wanna see your cat and why it was replaced...
And if they find out the turbo is not CARB legal for the A4 (as all of them aren't except for the undetectable K04) then you'll be fined! $10k max if I remember correctly.
I think you're toast
I think the front plate tripped him off, and just went on and on - which is legal for them to do. He could have added more - ride height, exhaust too loud, etc. But the referee station bites.

True dat. I got hassled a lot there back when I used to own an 95 eclipse.
For the 3.5 years I owned it, I was stopped for no reason 5 times. Each resulted in a verbal warning to stay out of trouble.
Maybe I just looked like a trouble maker?

my friend had to go to the ref too...but instead he just went to court and told the judge that his
car was totalled. i'm sure he had some pics or some kind of documentation, but he did this twice and it worked both times.

are you sure he had the right to pry under the hood?.....
maybe im thinking about this like too much of a libertarian, but what right did he have to look under your hood? if it is like in-car searches, he doesnt have the right to look unless you consent or he has reasonable cause. do some research about the emissions laws and how "searches" apply to them.

he can't have you pop your hood unless he has reasonable suspician. If he pulled you over for
tinted windows and no front plate, you should have declined popping your hood. Missing plate and tinted windows does not warrant "modified" vehicle.
