cats are restrictive, especially the stock one, not so mucha high flow one
removing it and using a race pipe (straight through) is a cheap and easy way to get more performance.

Here's a question...are you required to pop the hood when they make the request?
Obviously, if you choose not to cooperate, they can bust your ***** over 100 other things, but if you've got something under the hood that they will give you more headaches about, is it possible to just say "no"?
*shrug*...sorry, I know this doesn't help you this time, but *if* there is a next time...

that sucks. how fast were you going, etc.? reason i ask is that it sounds like the cop
had a hard on for you. did you say or do something to **** him off?
I've been pulled over a bunch of times and have found that being extremely cooperative usually helps.
Also, I've been told by cops (traffice school) that the best way to not get a ticket when you get pulled over is to:
1. shut the car off;
2. roll windows down (turn on interior lights if it's at night);
3. keep hands on top of steering wheel where they can see them;
4. be cooperative with paper work, etc.
5. and this is an important one that a lot of people don't do, ask for a warning.
just as an example, i got pulled over for speeding, tailgaiting, and driving on the wrong side of the road (jumped the yellow line to get in a left turn lane), followed the steps above, asked for a warning, and didn't get a ticket, just a "slow down."
generally speaking, from what my stint in traffic school taught me and having been pulled over about 5 times is that a cop is more likely to give a warning to the person that actually asks for it.
just my $0.02

modifying the stock cat on any car is highly illegal, and in cali, where emission laws are the...
stiffest, penalties are porbably the highest.
unless you cat goes bad, you cant touch it. and if it does, it has to be replaced with an OEM part of an approved aftermarket replacement.

I'd say a lot of different drivers had a hand in ruining it for all of us...
...it's just sad when good people get profiled under that category.
What's the saying?
All it takes is one bad apple to ruin the bunch?
