Kumho or Falkens
Hi guys,
I'm looking to get new tires for the spring, and i dont have a lot of cash right now so im looking for a cheap way out. Im looking at the Kumho Ecsta 711's for $54 off tirerack and the Falken Falken Azenis St115 for $76 and the Falken Ziex Ze 512 for $77. Ive searched the forums and im leaning towards the Falkens, but i just wanted a final verdict from you guys, or any other suggestions for the best tires for the price. Thanks a lot! |
where are you finding those prices for the falkens? what size?
i've been happy with my ST115's, i am about to buy my second set. A lot of people have been having issues with falken though - FK451's spontaneously combusting and the ZE512's having bubbles in the sidewall. I have not heard anything bad about the ST115's, nor have I had any negative experiences with them. This may just be due to the fact that not that many people have them. Nevertheless, I will be getting another set in the coming weeks.

well judging by my experience with Falkens Id go Kumho of those 2...
but how bout neither?
|
EdgeRacing.com....Are the st115's an somewhat of an all season tire like the ze512's?
|
well don't cheap out on tires, seeing as they are the only part of your car..
that makes contact with the pavement, I'd say spend that few extra and do yourself a favor
|
nope, keep them away from the snow. they're decent in the wet and dry though
|
st115s are a summer tire. I have them on my 2.8. They are nice and quiet
|
Anybody else have any experience or info on the downsides of the ze512's?
|
"Alabama All Seasons"
thats the term he was looking for.
|
do a search, lots of people have had bubbles and balancing issues with the ZE512s
i've had 2 sets on other cars, one that worked flawlessly and another that had a bubble.
|
Kumho...and always cheep out on tires.
joe685 is right, they are your only contact with the pavement...and the pavement is full of nails, spikes and little bastards that slash your $200 a pop Bridgestone Potenza's. So, pay for the warranty at 75 bucks a tire, or buy tires that you can replace for a little over 75 bucks.
|
The Warenty just patches them, doesnt replace them.
if they cant be patched you are fvcked.
I havent ever spent more than $15 fixing a slow leak, so I say save your money on the road hazard and put an extra $30 in the bank. |
Hankooks?
I like my ventus rs2's.
|
Ask Durrty Dufour about Falken tires...
and read this thread<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2528894.phtml">clickity</a></li></ul>
|
FUNNY you should say that - my 17" falken ST115's
are VERY ""N O I S Y"" only after 15k kms :(
But very quiet for the first 10k kms :) |
pssssst....

If going with Falken, I would stick with the ST115
Quieter ride and doesn't have the tread seperation issues that seem to plague a few awers like the ze512s.
I have had the STs for a year and am happy with them. |
the FK451's are the ones with the big tread separation problem...
of all the cases I have seen in my searching the past few days, about 80% are FK451's
|
thought I had seen some 512s in the list too.
possibly mistaken.
|
no, there were some 512's just not nearly as many
|
I know, but I thought he would like to see your thread with the pics in it.
