Loose box in the trunk during spirited driving (long, please read)
Went for a mountain drive today with some of the guys in the San Diego area and it was fun!! Lotsa twisties, tested quattro, tested anti-lock brakes, and a few four-wheel drifts Overall, it was an awesome experience and it was cool to have 4 A4's there and meet their owners. This drive took a toll on my subwoofer though (trying to keep up with Brent). Not realizing the driving was going to be this spirited, I ended up tossing my sub enclosure all over my trunk because it was inadequately anchored down by a flimsy bungee cord. Now it does weird things. For one, it doesn't work at all.... then in a few minutes it will start working (as if it was taking time to warm up) but very faintly and it doesn't sound nearly as good as before. Checked the wiring, everything seems intact. The amp diagnostic LED's are all normal. What could this be??? My current theories are that when the box was being tossed around, the wires got disconnected from the enclosure/driver and they may have been crossed therefore frying the amp. Another theory is that the vigorous tossing around in the trunk may have damaged the actual driver components of the sub. It's not possible that I have blown the sub just by tossing it around is it? Any thoughts from you audio experts out there? I won't be able to take this in to a shop until the end of the week so if there's a quick fix I may be able to try, please let me know.
Thanks

The Sub is hosed? bummer!!
I would think that the Xtant you have in the trunk would have adequate protection against short circuits, so I would tend to rule that out as being the culprit. Should be easy enough to hook up some home speakers to it just to test out to make sure it's not hosed. The speaker driver itself going bad from tossing around doesn't seem likely either.
Have you checked the input cables on the amp? maybe when the sub box was rolling around it tugged on the amp and screwed up the connections on it.
Maybe you shouldn't try to keep up with me next time

Do you have a grill covering the speaker itself?? more...
and when u say tossed around did u hear it banging?? You may have damaged the spider of the sub, and this is why when it gets "warm" it plays a little bit. Most big speaker firms will re spider under warrenty, but most spider damage is caused by HEAT... lol. I am guessing the spider wiring has broken in at least one place and when it gets hot it expands and makes contact again (although poorly) therefore causing it to play again.
This is just a guess from what you have told me.
Good luck.
