Default Low brake fluid after 6,000 miles...

The low brake fluid light would flash and beep whenever I would attempt to accelerate quickly, so I took my 99.5 A4 2.8QMS into Sunset Imports today without an appointment.

First of all, the service manager was very friendly and prompt. He actually did all the work instead of making me wait for a technician or make an appointment or something. Besides filling up the brake fluid, he checked added some oil as well.

Anyway, he looked at the brake fluid and said it was low and the proceeded to ask me how old the car is. I said "6,000 miles" and he said "do you do any spirited driving, like on a track?".

I replied "no and I don't drive it that hard or do any spirited braking of any sort."

Then he continued "that's strange, the brake fluid in an A4 this new shouldn't be so low."

I then said "well, maybe it wasn't full all the way when I purchased it. I haven't seen any leaks under the car or smelt any fumes."

He said that they'll check it out in more detail when I bring it in for its 7,500 mile check up.

Anyone else experience this low brake fluid phenominon with a new A4? It wasn't dangerously low or anything, but it was low enough to trigger the alarm when I drove spiritedly.

Default I would pull each wheel and check each caliper for leaks as well as brake hose and other visible

fittings. If all is o.k. then I would keep a close eye on the master cylinder level. Do your brakes feel hard when you step on brake pedal?

Default More on my dealer experience...

The service manager also stated that the 5 valve engines are very reliable and last a long time. He said that he knows of quite a few 30v V6 engines with over 200,000 on them already and some older 5 cylinders with over 300,000 miles and all of them are still going strong. Obviously these owners don't visit A4.org or we would of seen posts by now.

Default This is not a good sign, I have 30,000 miles with the original pads and occassional track driving...

but the brake fluid level is still full. Do you see any black fluid streaks any of the wheels? Just like Alan t mentioned, it could be a leak, and that won't be good. Or maybe Audi forgot to top yours off in the first place. That's not good either. Good luck

Default 30V with 200K?

Old 12v motors I could see since they've been around awhile. and the old 5 cyls I definately could reach those kinds of miles.

If someone had put 200K miles on their 30v already, they must never get out of the car.
