The low engine oil light came on today while driving...
The oil was changed 4 months ago (about 4300 miles). Is this normal? Does it need to be changed or should I just add some oil?
BTW, it's a 2001 2.8Q with 31,000 miles. TIA

If you search the postings you will find that the 2.8 tends to use oil. From what I have found, cars are different and use between none to a quart every 3,000. It doesn't seem to be unusual. I just purchased a 2.8 Avant and it has used a 1/2 quart in 2,000 miles. The car has 50K and engine is tight - no leaks. My wife and I check the oil with every fill up. I'm switching to Mobil 1 next oil change. I hope the change will help the consumption.

Go to the dealership
Audi has issued somewhat of a recall....people with the 1.8T that are expieriencing low oil lights, may have a problem with oil sludge buildup in the return lines.....you may get some lines replaced, oil pump....or even a whole new engine (block/head)......I belive this will be an 8 year unlimited mileage wty. Audi is now reccomending only synthetic oil in the 1.8T's. I work at an Audi dealership, and we have done a few of these repairs already.

ok, so you can tell me the following... (more)
if i just bought my 00 a4 recently from the first owner and if i took it to the dealer to replace all the necessary parts, would i need some kind of proof that the owner used approved oil for his own oil changes?
i am pretty sure that a lot of people here who bought their audis secondhand are interested in this response.
thanks,
alen
