It sounds like everyone is using mobil one, but when I went to Kragen to by a case, they ran out. Since it was close to 9pm, the night before my 30K appt. at 9am, I just went ahead and bought Castrol Syntec. I'm sure people will agree that synthetic is better then conventional, but is there any proof that mobil is better than castrol?
It's too late now cause its already in, but I'm just wondering. Thanks.

I read somewhere that Castrol Syntec is not really "synthetic" in the conventional definition. Castrol starts out as petroleum based oil and "process" it until it has some of the properties similar to the synthetic oils.

As for Mobil 1, it apparently starts out from non-petroleum based oils/chemicals to formulate their synthetic motor oil.

As for which is better or if they are as good as each other, the article didn't say.

I used syntec on my last car, and at 108000 miles it still turns over and runs great, and I beat the hell out of it... I went through tires faster than on my audi, and it was only a 135 hp AWD subaru...

castrol has syntec, which from what I understand is a full synthetic, but I am not sure on that. They also have a synthetic blend called synthblend or something...

either way, castrol syntec will be fine... and I would trust it as much as mobil 1. I just decided to try mobil 1 for this car.
