More BT braintrust.
Just a thought.. but if i am fabbing all kinds of stuff...
Why not a supercharger? Saves me on exhaust plumbing, more boost at lower RPM.... Just sayin. |
Lot's of reasons.
I looked into both before supercharging the Miata.
The nice thing about the supercharger is that it is much more linear than a turbo. The nice thing about a turbo is that it is cheaper than a supercharger, generally you can get more power out of a turbo, and a turbo is smaller and lighter. |
Tanks.
Just thinking....

Not trying to kill your creativity.
A nice M62 on an A4 would be a really nice daily driver. But you can go faster for cheaper with a turbo.

Junkyard okay'd the refund.
Thank the F christ.

Superchargers can produce quite a bit of boost to... Easily adjust by changing the pulley.
Superchargers are generally easier to maintain and the more linear power is defnately nice to have. I think it would actually be easier in the end if your fabricating stuff to throw a supercharger on. Not to mention you would not have to deal with routing oil lines either.
The one fall back with a supercharger is heat. They dont like to run hot. If you fabricate the supercharger to mount on the intake manifold then you run into how to cool the air going into the motor. I tihnk the supercharger would be a fun project... not sure how hard it would be to get an ecu to make it work (guessing you want to do this on the 4 cylinder)... |
This car is not mine...
I will not tinker on a customer car, I was just thinking. I can get Procharger units cheap.
|
You forgot the #1 con of a supercharger
Uses power to make power. Just means the supercharger puts drag on the engine which decreases the amount of power the engine will make.
|
A turbo is not free.
Ever measure the exhaust pressure before a turbo? It is usually a little more than the boost you put out.
|
Yes but it doesn't decrease the amount of hp made.
If there wasn't a high amount of pressure before the exhaust wheel it wouldn't exactly want to spin the wheel now would it?
