my car is making odd noises when i turn the steering wheel

my car started making an odd whining noise this morning everytime i turned the steering wheel. it's an odd mid-pitch sound. i checked the power steering fluid and it looks fine. any ideas on what's wrong?

i had the same problem...

new power steering pump, no more whining. I was not low on power steering fluid either.

I am thinking that Audi has a problem with steering pumps.

I just started getting the whining too. I've got a 98.5

'96 here. just started whining too. briefly though...then stops. sound similar?

exactly...it will disappear......then come back a few weeks later

Mine does it almost every day when the car is first started and then goes away.
