Need help

A very loud metallic rattling started yesterday that only happens at low RPM. As soon as I get up around 1500-2000 it goes away. Any ideas? TIA.

Year, engine, mileage, noise from engine, Trans, suspention, rear of car???

I wish i could look in my crystal ball and tell ya.

1999 A4 1.8T quattro....Noise is from engine. Still drives fine so I think it might be from alternator bearing but I can't pinpoint it yet. Thx.

Miles? The metalic noise tends to be the Timing belt tensioner on its way out

Has it been replaced???

52000 miles and the timing belt has not been changed yet. If it were the tensioner, would the sound go away when the RPM's went up? Thx.

Consider this your lucky day...

My timing belt went without warning a month ago on the highway. Pay attention, get it changed if its at fault or you'll be paying out of your a$$. $2800 later and my car was back on the road. If your in Toronto I know a good guy who works for Audi and does jobs on the side.
