Negoiate before ordering?

Negoiate before ordering?
I'm about to order an A4. Do I need to negoiate the price and financing before I order. Do I have to put a deposit down? What paper work, if any should I commit to at the order time?
Is there a way I can protect myself in case the car that shows up isn't exactly what I ordered?
thanks,
jonathan

Re: Negoiate before ordering?
The only thing to negotiate before ordering is the price of the car, i.e. how much below MSRP you are going to get. Nobody is going to commit to financing numbers on a car that hasn't been built yet. You certainly won't be able to draw a lease contract for a car that has no VIN yet. The paperwork that you want to walk away with is the dealer's order sheet, which will list all of the colors and options that you choose as well as the negotiated price of the car. That will protect you from having to commit to a car that doesn't meet the specs of that order sheet.
Whether not you have to put down a deposit is up to the individual dealer. Some require $500 or $1000, some are refundable, others aren't. I didn't have to put a deposit down on mine.
