Default New A4... B5 or B6?

Hey all, first post by the way haha.

Anyway, I am selling my car, and will have about $18,000 or so to spend on a car, and have decided on an Audi A4. I've been around Audi's a lot but I have yet to own one myself. My confusion arises when I try to decide which A4 I should buy. I am planning on doing a few mods to the car, nothing major. Most likely a new exhaust and chipping.. perhaps suspension and wheels, depending on what I buy.

I was just wondering, would it be a better idea to buy an older, B5 2000 A4 and have money to have fun with the car? Or should I put more money into buying the car and have less money for mods and get a newer 2002-2004 A4? I'm leaning towards a B5, but I don't want to make the final decision without some input! Thanks!

Default 1.8T for sure

My friend has a 1999.5 and he swears by it because it's non drive by wire, and it has all the new electronics. Any reason why I should get a 99.5, 2000, or 2001?

Default I had a 99.5, and it's very desirable for those reasons... updated body/interiot with

nDBW... AEB block is stronger, you can make a lot of power with it.

With that being said, the other option I would consider is a late B6 ultrasport 1.8t quattro with a 6-spd manual trans. mmm. I'd take that over a B5 were I to do it again.

If you're patient enough, you can probably find a stage 3 B5 S4 for ~$18k.

yup, stage 3 S4s can be had for <$20k now, if you don't mind higher mileage.
