New to the B5 A4 scene, need help...
Hello To you all,
I am a previous owner of a 1993 Audi S4 and I'm looking to switch over to a B5 A4. I'm looking at a 1999 A4 1.8T Quattro, ask. $12500CDN. The car is in awesome shape inside and out, but has some rust on underneath, calipers are rusty as well as control arms. The car is a 5-speed and has 140km. No service records or anything. I'm plannig to take it to a local shop to do an inspection on it. Any hints/(trouble areas) and tips before trying to make a deal? Thanks very much, Adam |
we've got a FAQ that's really helpful as far as things to look out for...
i don't think many here will know what a good price on that car would be up in your part of the continent...
however, with wear (rust) like that I'd say that car's not worth more than $8K US. FWIW, here in California (where cars hold their value a little better than other parts) I paid $10800 from a dealer for my 99.5 with 71k miles at the time (I think that's ~120k km) and full service records (down to every last oil change). it had some dings in the rear bumper but was in very nice shape otherwise. It's also got the sport package. Anyhow, hope this helped. Again, search "B5 FAQ" to find out other things to look for, specifically control arm and timing belt issues. |
Walk away....
The rust and "no service records" are two bads signs. There are too many A4's out there to take a chance on a car that pricey with that kind of mileage.
Unserviced or poorly serviced Audis can turn into real headaches quite quickly. The type of headache that goes straight to your bank acct. |
.... and find something with service records

Skip.

Thanks a lot for suggestions, will continue looking. If you have an A4 under 9K USD, e-mail me
