Newbie: Is the UUC shortshifter worthwhile?

curious Mark, why do you like the Neuspeed one? I like the UUC because it retains the stock height
yet still reduces the throw. Thus the shift boot still fits as it should, and the shifter doesn't look like it was hacked down. I guess the height thing is a personal preferance

I've driven them both, and much preferred the feel of the Neuspeed.
The Neuspeed has a more positive action, compared to the UUC, which I found to be a bit vague in feel and lacking in tactile communication. The Neuspeed 'snicks" into gear, while the UUC just seemed to slide in, with no point of resistance to overcome and pass through to get in - the overall feel was a bit sloppy IMHO.
You're right about the boot though. I don't dig the look of the scrunched up shift boot either - it's not THAT bad when I keep it ruffled, but when the boot falls down inside it looks pretty silly. I'm just going to have a leather shop stitch the four cuts at a smaller angle so that it comes to a head about 1.5" shorter. It should cost less than $20 and will get rid of the scrunched look.
Re: the lower height - yeah, it looked funny to me at first, but now that I'm used to it the stock shifter looks like a 1972 UHaul shifter. :-) The shorter one is more sporty IMHO. It might be too short for you though, especially if you drive with the armrest down. I don't have a problem at 6'0" though.
Cheers,
Mark
