Default O2 Sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 2) - Slow Response...

Just got an estimate to replace the O2 Sensor from my dealer ~$400 ($200 part + $200 labor). Is this a DIY job or do I need to bring it in? I took a look and if sensor "2" is the one after the cat, it's way down in there and looks like a b*tch to work on. If I can't/shouldn't do it myself, any other (translation: cheaper) alternatives other than the good old Audi dealer?

btw, it's a 98.5 1.8T with 100K miles.

Thanks.

Default buy the part online and DIY or take it to an exhaust shop with the part.

call the shop first to see if it's ok to bring your own parts. most places like Meineke, Midas, etc. don't care because they won't warranty the work and want the labor - which is less than the dealer - and should only take <1 hour.

Default I bought my o2 sensor online for 70bux from importpartsbin and installed it myself

you need a special tool called an o2 sensor socket, about 10bux from an autopart store. Apart from that it takes about 10min to do.

Default Re: Which sensor did you replace?...

The sensor before the cat looks easy enough to get to. The sensor after the cat looks a lot tougher. Do I need to re-code/recalibrate anything. I recall the dealer mentioning that the throttle would have to be recalibrated or something to that effect.
