Default No, not really.

I had one of the B6 guys drop by my office on Wednesday to take thermal images of my seats so I could figure out what's going on with the seat heaters. Driver's seat is hosed...parts of it work, but the temps are way off, and other parts are entirely dead. I just priced out the elements using the part numbers qfrog gave me last month...$380 for the bottom and back portion from impex!!! That's rediculous...VW charges less than that for the cold weather option on their cars. I can't believe I'm considering paying for these elements...

Default Element failure in this way is very common. First, it develops a super hot spot, then...

the spot burns out. Mine is in super hot mode right now. I have a 1996 with comfort cloth seats. A new element is $189 from Audi.

As a side note, seat heaters are failing right and left on the new Jettas. My friends at the dealership are reporting tons of failures. In some cases they have to replace the seat cover due to burn through. In extreme cases, they are replacing customer's pants (not kidding here). If they are failing on the VW's, Audi failures can't be too far behind.

I'll be doing my element in a few weeks. I guess I should do a write up.

Default Alot of the guys in the old 5000/200/V8 forum just solder the breaks in the element...

it is not always a long term fix, but for short term they say it works.

I am gonna try it on my driver's seat on my 200.

Sure. You'll need hog ring pliers and rings, and a lot of time.

Skip it. For the amount of work involved, just replace it. My time is worth more than that.
