overheating problem please help FAST!

ok I just bought a 98 a4 1.8T Quattro privately....the day I get it it runs fime for about 2 hours .... later the same day my car starts to overheat fast.... doesnt overheat at idle (as far as I noticed) but the temp increases quicky if I am going 45+ miles per hour. the coolant is full the radiator looks clean from the outside... I dont hear any odd noise from the engine that would lead me to believe the water pump is going or gone completely... the heat works the AC works the person I bought the car from swears that its never happened to him ever... sucks for me... the only other thing that I think it could be is the thermostat but someone told me ( this makes sense) that if the thermostat was stuck it would always overheat.... please help I'm pretty upset after spending 10 grand that I cant drive my car....just spent all my money and I cant drive my car. I'm in NH if anyone is local and wants to help me out.....

water pump, or thermostat failure from the sounds of it.

Does the thermostat require the whole front end off, or can it be replaced from below?
