Performance chips????

I have read several advertisings about Performance Chips as well as some items offered on ebay. Any thoughts about the effectivness and safety of these items.

Go with APR or GIAC. 500 bucks. 35-55 hp gains (depending on year 2001 is 170 stock vs earlier 150)

Basically all there is to know. Many have run chips from early on (i.e. 20k miles, to myself (chipped my last car with APR 93 at 106k miles). As long as you do regular maintenance etc you should be fine. What year, model and mileage?
