Default Please diagnose problem

A few days ago, the OIL warning light came on when I started the car. I wasn't too worried about this, because I have been getting oil changes at Pep Boys and assume they just don't reset the computer. Oil level is fine.

Now, however, when I start the car, the steering goes kind of tight, there is a weird noise coming from the driver side of the engine area and I can feel pretty strong vibrations through the steering wheel, especially when turning. Also feels a bit like I'm driving with the parking brake on. This all goes away after about 15 minutes. Any idea what this could be? Does the OIL servive indicator mean anything other than it's time for an oil service?

Thanks.

Default Pep Boys?

You bring your Audi to Pep Boys?

The problem with your car is the nut behind the wheel.

Default An oil change is an oil change, no?

The oil is clean and the level is right, so what difference does it make?

Default Well, in your case, I would guess the the pro's at Pep Boys

not only forgot to reset the service reminder, but they topped off the PS with the wrong stuff.

And I winder what else they did not check for your $19.95.

Do you have bad TRE's? Torn CV boots? Leaking rear diff?

You do not know, because the $3.35 per hour guys you use do not check it.

I doubt they use an Audi filter...

Default

if they did "top off" fluids, this is a likely culprit. They wouldn't know WTF to use

I used Pep Boys to change the oil, period. No other work, no "top offs", nothing. So smart *** comments aside, I am not sure why an oil chnage from Pep Boys makes any difference. I was simply asking what these symptoms sounded like, not looking for wise-*** "I told you so's".

Default Well, I know the answers.

If you learn to change the subject, *and* understand when people are trying to be helpful, then I will answer.

Default I *was* going to have my oil changed at PB but then I slept at the Holiday Inn Express last night...

... and now I am going to do it myself!

Default The mere mention of Pep Boys, Jiffy Lube, makes people here see red.

The oil change light is a reminder only.

Check your steering fluid first, if low go to an Audi or VW dealer, buy a can and top it off.
If the fluid level is OK, the pump may be binding, and/or the system may need flushing.
No Pep Boys there go to a Dealer.

Default your oil light doesn't have anything to do with changes

it's pressure. And anyone with a license should know better than to drive their car anywhere with an oil light on. Get it towed.
