Default please help. getting high oil temperature.

hey everybody. just bought a 2000 a4 2.8 quattro 2 weeks ago and love it. but i've got a few issues. main one is the oil temperature is rising pretty high. i can't remember how the gauge reads but it goes up to the line under the red line. it sits there for about 10-15 minutes of normal driving the shoots down to cool real fast. the warning light doesn't come on but this can't be normal. anybody got any ideas. it did this on the way home from picking it up and still does it after i got the oil changed so most likely not low oil. been searching the forums but haven't had much luck. thanks if you can help.

I have an issue with consistently low oil temperature in my '99 B5 1.8t (Q, tip). I know we have some sort of a Mocal thermostatic temp sending unit/cooler, so the problem may lie there, or in the guage; who knows? Good luck finding some concrete evidence.

It's the sender most likely. Oil doesn't cool down fast once heated, so if your gauge is doing that, I'd start by changing the sensor.
