Keep close watch on the coolant level in the reservoir. Check it when it is cool, after your car has not been driven for 12 hours or so. If it remains the same then you are likely not loosing coolant into the combustion chamber.

So are you loosing coolant? What did you determine was the cause of the issue related to the smoke from the exhaust?
