also, what ambient outside temperature does your response refer to? If cold weather and warm weather results are much different, please post both.

That's kind of a hard thing to poll aobut. If you are worried about your temps,
 

As long as they don't exceed 250 REGULARLY, you are fine. IF you get over 250 alot, go to a higher viscosity of oil. It is normal for the temps to vary considerably depending on load, outside temps, etc..

my case is actually the opposite. I practically don't reach 200F at all. Is running in the 175-200 range bad for the engine, even if I push it hard?

The only thing you want to look out for is condensation in the oil.
 

My wife is great at taking short hops, the car never warms up at all. THe inside of her valve covers, vent lines, filler cap etc are coated with this lovely white froth. It can clog your vent lines, and is very ugly.

If the oil never gets up to temps to burn off the moisture that is naturally there, you can get problems down the road.

Most of my trips are about 13 miles long (twice a day)....
 

and the temp gets above 175, but below 200, and stays there during the last 1/3 of the trip.

What is the minimum oil temp needed for the moisture you're talking about to burn off?

I am almost always b/w 215-225....

200 / 215 / Mobil 1 0W30 / 1.8T / Y

IT should burn off if you stay over 180 for a few minutes.
 

You will know what I mean if you see it. Pop off your oil filler, if there is a white foamy goop on it, you need to get your oil temps up more.
