possible V1 problem....

possible V1 problem....
Lately I've been getting a LOT of false laser readings, always from the rear sensor...it happens all the time and never more than a half-second or so each time. I called V1 and basically the guy didn't know what it might be so to just send it in for repair or a new unit. Anyone ever have this problem?

that's not it...
every now and then I get behind a Trailblazer or Avalanche (among other GMs) which will set it off, but this will occur at any time even with no other cars around. And as mentioned it's ALWAYS pointing backwards, never from the front like it does if it picks up an LED 3rd brake light.

Hrmmm...well some road reflectors will shine red back at you
from traffic going towards them, but I doubt this is it. It also mentions in the V1 manual that some things like Neon lights and signs and set it off. You'll notice that Audi's own interior lights will set it off if you point either end towards the radio.
Please try the following...put some black electrical tape over the sensors. This will eliminate your laser warnings...but will NOT impair your microwave range...if you still have false readings something is wrong with the V1 for sure, though the the sensor could go bad in a funky way causing it to be receptive to light that's out of band...but IIRC the reddish tint of the plastic on the V1 acts as an optical low pass filter...so whatever is doing it it's IR or Laser (in the IR range...below where visible red occurs)
Anyhow try the tape...see what you can find out.

Not a problem...
Probably a Lincoln navigator going the other way and hitting their brakes. Those cars use a plasma/neon third brakelight that drives laser detectors absolutely NUTZ. There is a tech article on V1's website about red neon, and the particular cars that emit the right freq of light.
