Default a comment....

Don't rub it in. The wind ripping off the Canadian Rockies is getting somewhat crisp to say the least. The snow level is dropping as of late, which is not a great sign for me as garage activities go. Might be time to invest in a small heater. ; )

Default I had to replace my 4 right front control arms in January outside, uncovered, in Binghamton NY

Oh, and they were all rusted into a blob so a drill was required.

...and there was snow on the ground. Luckily though I had a big cardboard box that the parts came in to lay on.

Default BTDT, doing exhaust work in snow when we had a condo. Tips

Go to Big Lots or Costco and get a big *** tarp ,extension cords and space heater for covering the car and some kind of pad to go on the ground . I used bricks to hold the tarp down and had it draped over another car to provide a tool ,work area between them and to hold the tarp off the heater .

Default Hmmm, how much sun do you get this time of year? Do you get a lot of inversions

or anything?

To supplement and eventually replace the gas hot water heater at times of the year I'm working on 2 separate heat generating devices. One is a real basic design based on passive solar heating of arctic out houses that can get up to 70 deg F when it is -20 out, but you need sun. And the other is a mirrored parabolic trough that will heat oil in metal tubes, etc.

The out house design I've seen adapted to south facing garage walls to get heat in winter sun angles that are as low as 10 degrees. But you do need sun overcast won't do well with these two I've got in the works so won't be anything more than a summer supplemental thing as we get too much inversion here.

one of many designs you can find on the internet for DIY garage heat...

Default a response.....

Solar is a bit of a mixed bag out here on the coast, especially in the winter. There is not much sunshine in the winter except for spots in January or the odd occasion. I've been told though, solar runs very efficiently here due to the moderate temps(even in the summers). Its quite dependent on where exactly your located out here, since there are so many micro-climates where weather can differ greatly.

Default Its natural ,quattro loves the snow , also Nissan sits outside in summer if

I get home 1st . I'm the gentleman because she doesn't have seat heaters and the doors have a crap design and freeze shut easily. Since I'm the dad,I get to go out and break the ice bond so she can get to class ,thus I might as well let her have the garage. Its just easier this way ,with two women in the house and 1 1/4 males(me and the cat). The cat is surely on my side ,he stalks my wife if she uses the bathroom in the middle of the night and nips her heels.

Default I LOL'd...

I have a pure evil 6 year old male cat that likes pretty much no one but me. He swipes at my wife for no reason at all and gets her pretty upset as she is always going "what did I ever do to that cat!" I always say he must have his reasons =)
