Questions for the guys who have retrofitted 1 Pc headlights onto a 96-98...

I searched the FAQ and did a few quick searches but there are a few things I still wasn't sure about for retrofitting the valeo 1 piece housings (non-ecode) onto a 98 with the 2 piece bosch housings.

First, can I use the same wiring harness as the ones sold on AWE, ECS, etc. for the valeo e-codes or do I need to rig it all up myself? I know its possible to do without the harness, but I am not the most handy person when it comes to wiring so I figure spending the $50 is more than worth it if it can be done. (To me anyway).

My second question is...what did you guys do concerning fog lights? Is it possible to use my wires from my oem fog lights if I want to get fog lights from a 99-01 a4 and still use the same switch? If so, about how much would it cost to do?

Thanks in advance

have you seen this write-up yet...

Call around at your local VW Dealers for prices on these part #'s. They're cheaper that AWE or ECS.

8DO-973-734 (harness) qty: 2
000-979-225-A (wire/terminal) qty: 4 (3+city lights)

I got mine for around $37 total.

As for the fog lights, yes you should be able to get the 99-01 fogs and run them off the existing swith. I just taped my fog wires out of the way until I decide if I'm going to get fogs.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2079600.phtml</a

for the record...

Even if you buy the "kit" from AWE or ECS you're still going to have to cut your existing wiring. I recommend buying the parts on your own. I think it cost me maybe $20. Icebreaker linked you to the post from when I did mine which should give you a pretty good mental picture of what needs to be done.

I never bothered to set up fog lights, personally. You can separate the fog wire as I did though and it will certainly work if you want to wire in OEM fogs. Look around Ebay or the classifieds to see if someone sells their fogs. Hella Micro DE's are a suitable alternative. Keep in mind the older bumpers will not have brackets so you will need to fabricate them yourself. Look for Jretal and StutterinJ in the archives. Jretal has an album linked in his signature that shows his brackets.

If you don't mind...

... can I have your e-mail address? I'm planning to do the same retrofit of a pair of 1-piece Valeo E-codes to my '97 A4, and I have a few questions that I'd like to ask about your install.

Thanks in advance!

Eric
