Default quick oil question...

i changed my oil not too long ago...when i changed my oil...after the car was level on the ground i started filling it up. now when i did it...i ran the car for 5 minutes and then let it sit and topped it off to full.

today i found what looks to be oil and a considerable amount on the floor on the turbo side of the motor. it really didn't have any smell to it, felt like the consistancy of oil...so now i'm paranoid. i looked everywhere and couldn't find any traces of oil leaking or any oil drips on that side of the car. so i drove to work and then an hour later i go to check my oil and it shows at least a quart more than when i did my oil change. am i way over with the oil...i would find that strange when the oil after doing the oil change was right on the money. or does my car need to sit longer than an hour to be able to check it? i checked it 4 times and they all read the same thing. this oil leak has me paranoid...i just jacked the car up and i can see no drips anywhere or any traces. ideas or suggestions?

If it's overfilled just drain the excess and keep an eye on any leaks and oil level

Default If the dipstick shows overfill then .... (drum roll) .... it is! Just bring it within the specs

I've overfilled mine too a couple of times. It happens.

Default i just don't get how it can be overfilled now and when i changed my oil and let my car run...

for 5 minutes...and check it...it was dead on. now its showing too much? i didn't even drop in 4 qts....with the bigger filter. so i'm just unsure of how after an oil change...that it can be more when i check it and it was at the right level...

It might have not drained from the head into the sump right away, ..did eventually.

Default so how should i check the oil....leave it sit over nite or

wait a few minutes after driving it home and check levels...if its too much, then drain. not sure which is the proper way. i could check it tomorrow morning and see where its at cold...or check when its hot?

Overnight. In the morning. Cold is fine. Basically, the longest sitting interval is your friend
