REALLY don't wanna spend $400 for a radar detector...what would you guys reccomend between the
Escort Passport 8500, and the BEL 980. Anyone use both. I think I can get the BEL for $220....not sure about the Escort....HELP!!! I need a radar detector.
P.S. I suffer from AOWLTDTCF Syndrome.

You get what you pay for....
One or two good hits from the local constabulary will more than pay for the V1... I've had a bunch of detectors... the V! is head and shoulders above any and all of them.

A few weeks ago somneone did this test... (more)
They bought a Passport 8500 and a V1 and placed them both at the top of their windshield at either side of the mirror and ran them together. SOmetimes switching one off and another on quickly to test range. The end result was they took the Passport back.
I just put my Dad's V1 in his A6 2.7t and it is a great system although I haven't had a chance to test it against my older Whistler.
I am relatively certain you get what you pay for here.

Buy the V1...
Everyone I know who has a V1 loves it and wishes they bought one sooner.
It's not just range, or the build quality, or the lighter wallet.
It's all the info it provides. Counts, location, and strength. Anything less and you'll just ignore the thing 1/2 the time.
