Really weird starting problem...
Hello guys. Im new to this forum and I have a 96 A4 2.8. The car is great but I have recently acquired a problem that's evidently common to our marque. The car wouldnt start in warm temps outside. It doesnt crank over, doesnt engage the starter or the solenoid. All I hear is clicking noises coming from the relay boards. Ive searched through our archives here and found out that this is a common problem. I just dont know if its the starter, starter relay, or the ignition switch. It starts in the very early mornings and at night. Doesnt start in the daytime when the ambient temps are about 75 degrees or so. I dont really know if that has anything to do with it. What are the common sources of trouble and fixes for this? How would I know if its the starter relay or the ignition switch? Also, which one is the starter relay on the relay board? There's a whole bunch of them with different 3 digit numbers. If when I turn the ignition switch to "start" and I hear a 'click', doesnt that indicate that the ignition switch is functioning properly?
