She is the only PERSON (regardless of gender) that I have ever let borrow my car. And one of very few people that I have even let drive my car -- both my A4 and my previous Integra.
Now my mother, on the other hand, she could do with a few driving lessons.
I find that driving has more to do with confidence than anything else. Most women are brought up in our society in a submissive role. The women who transcend that role are successful in their careers, in relationships, and are usually much better drivers than the "less confident" women. The same holds true for men as well.
Here's a quick funny that just happened to me this afternoon. I was talking a walk in my neighborhood (Bay Ridge, Brooklyn) and WHILE I WAS CROSSING THE STREET, a woman rolled down her window and asked me if 4th ave would take her to Downtown Brooklyn (aka Flatbush). I told her it would, but she'd be better off getting on the expressway -- the entrance was only two blocks ahead.
Then she told me that she is "afraid to drive on highways."
Jeez -- she shouldn't even be allowed on the road, let alone highways. But hey, at least she knows her limitations and stays within them, which is more than I can say for most people.
Jackie, not only do I respect you as a driver, but also as a woman, and as a person in general.
Cheers,
Peter
